Symposium #2 DÜSSELDORF 11/2019: Building Schools in Urban Areas

Dig in gyms? Schoolyards on roofs? Climbing nets in stairwells? Cities and municipalities face major problems with increasing numbers of pupils. Because in the metropolitan areas there is hardly any space left for school buildings and schoolyards.

On November 13, 2019, we discussed future-oriented and sustainable solutions for school space development under the motto of building schools in urban areas. Experts from Italy, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland showed international perspectives on how municipalities can create good learning space conditions. The organizers of this German symposium were the Sophia :: Akademie, the city of Düsseldorf and the Alanus University. 162 participants met in the morning in the plenary hall of the Düsseldorf City Hall for keynote speeches from the various disciplines. In the afternoon, workshops and practical demonstrations took place at various learning locations. The presence events were supported interactively by virtual offers. We thank you on behalf of all partners for the inspiring exchange and the numerous formal and informal contributions.
